Riders Fall to Alouettes

It was a rain soaked afternoon that greeted a pair of teams that had problems generating any offence in the greasy conditions.

The first half was dominated by the defences as the Riders sacked rookie quarterback, Vernon Adams six times (Willie Jefferson with two, A.C. Leonard with two, Henoc Muamba and Kacy Rogers each with one) while the Alouettes picked up a pair of their own (Ray Drew and Jovon Johnson).

The scoring was provided by the foot of Tyler Crapigna with a field goal and Boris Bede with a pair of his own, while Bede also gave up a safety on a punt.

After a fairly mistake free 1st half, it was a sack of Darian Durant early in the third quarter that turn the tides. He fumbled on the play and the Alouettes recovered on the Rider four-yard line. The next play, Samuel Giguere punched it in on an end-around and that upped the lead to 13-5.

The Alouettes offence was the only one that seemed to be able to adjust to the conditions, as they finished a long drive with a 22 yard Vernon Adams pass to Marcus Henry in the back of the end zone for the commanding 19-5 lead.

The Rider offence finally woke up in the fourth quarter. Darian Durant finished off a 10-play, 97-yard drive with a 10-yard scamper into the end zone. That cut the Alouettes lead to 19-12.

Late in the fourth, the Riders were driving again, but Montreal put a stop to things with a stop on third down at their own seven-yard line.

Montreal gave up a safety late but that was it, as they knocked off the Riders 19-14. The Als won both games this seasons against the Riders.

Next up is the final game ever at Mosaic Stadium. The B.C. Lions will be the Riders opponent in the farewell game. It’s a 5pm kick off.
