Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Jeremy O’Day has announced today that Corey Mace has been named the 48th Head Coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
“From the get-go, Corey blew me away with his strong vision to lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders, his exceptional communication skills and his laser-focus on winning,” said O’Day. “But beyond his proven record as a top coach in the CFL, he also demonstrated a deep understanding of Saskatchewan and its people and a commitment to give back to our community. I am thrilled to welcome him and his family to the Roughriders and to get to work on a successful 2024 season.”

Mace, who hails from Port Moody, B.C., joins the Roughriders after spending the last two seasons (2022-23) as the defensive coordinator of the Toronto Argonauts, winning a Grey Cup with the team in 2022, and helping the team go an incredible 16-2 in the 2023 season. While in Toronto, Mace headed one of the league’s best defences, and it was especially potent last with the Argos leading the league in seven different defensive categories including sacks made (68 – 13 more than the next-highest team), forced turnovers (54), interceptions (27), forced fumbles (22) and fumbles recovered (15). The Argos also allowed the fewest big plays (30) and the fewest rushing yards (1,505). He also coached five CFL All-Stars over his two seasons in Toronto and the 2023 Most Outstanding Rookie, Quan’tez Stiggers.
Prior to his time in Toronto, Mace spent six seasons (2016-21) as the defensive line coach of the Calgary Stampeders, a position he took immediately after retiring from the team in 2015. Mace played 40 games with the Stampeders after spending three years with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. He was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the second round of the 2007 CFL Draft.
In addition to his 2022 Grey Cup Championship, the 37-year-old won two Grey Cups as a part of the Stampeders — one as a coach (2018) and one as a player (2014). Exceptionally community minded, Mace was awarded the Stampeders’ Presidents’ Ring in 2015 for exemplary performance on and off the field.
Mace is currently in transit to Saskatchewan with his wife, Petra. They have two children — Maleena, 4, and Micah, 1.
