The Saskatchewan Roughriders held its 2022-23 Annual General Meeting in Harvard Broadcasting’s Studio 620 at Mosaic Stadium on June 21. Chief Financial Officer Kent Paul presented the financial report which featured the following highlights:
FINANCIAL REPORT
In 2022-23, the Club had total revenues of $39.7 million and expenses of $35.8 million, resulting in excess revenues over expenses from operating activities of $3.9 million, compared to the same amount the prior year. When non-operating activities, including the 2022 Grey Cup results are considered the Club recorded excess revenues over expenses of $7.2 million.
A full 18-game season alongside the ability to host the 109th Grey Cup helped the Club to recover from the cancellation of the 2020 season and a shortened 2021 season. This allowed the Club to reinvest into its Stabilization Fund, bringing the balance to a level higher than pre-pandemic.
109th Grey Cup and 2022 Grey Cup Festival
After four years of planning the Club was able to host the 109th Grey Cup and the 2022 Grey Cup Festival which from all markers was a resounding success. The event earned $7.5 million in profits, one of the strongest Grey Cup’s ever, with 60 percent going to the CFL and 40 percent remaining with the Club.
The 109th Grey Cup and 2022 Grey Cup Festival generated nearly $70 million in economic activity in Canada and 94 percent of attendees rated the event ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
Board of Directors
The Saskatchewan Roughriders Board of Directors newly elected Edmund Bellegarde and Susan Flett as members and re-elected Rhonda Ekstrom and Rob Vanderhooft for new terms.
Continuing on in their terms are Terri Strunk, Greg Yuel (Lead Governor), Mackenzie Kilshaw, Blair Ross and Regan Exner.
Dave Pettigrew has been elected as the new Chair and Doug Hodson as Vice Chair.
Former Chair Barry Clarke and Eric Dillon have completed their time on the Board of Directors. The Club thanks them for their commitment to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and appreciates all the guidance they have provided over their time with the Riders.
