Roughrider Foundation’s Grow The Game Initiative Reaches Nearly 500 Youth In 2022/23

Another season of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation’s initiative, Grow the Game is in the books with the final camp being held in Regina on Tuesday, March 28th.

The camp saw over 100 students in grades 5 to 7 from Sacred Heart, Seven Stones Community School and Albert Community School come to the AffinityPlex centre for a morning filled with football, food and fun. The kids had the chance to learn directly from Roughrider Foundation player ambassadors Frankie Hickson and Brayden Lenius as well as players and volunteers from Football Sask and Regina’s amateur football elite teams, the Thunder, Rams, and Riot.

In partnership with Football Saskatchewan, the interactive workshops provided the opportunity for Indigenous youth, new Canadians and young women and girls to be introduced to the basics of football. With a goal to grow the game of football in the province, the camps featured volunteer coaches from all six amateur elite teams that the Foundation supports.

With the help of Football Saskatchewan, Grow the Game was able to expand this year reaching nearly 500 youth by holding workshops in both Regina and Saskatoon. With the support of Rider Nation, it is the Foundation’s goal to continue this impact when Grow the Game returns next season.

“The Foundation made it a goal in 2022 to expand our reach in the province and one of those areas was Grow the Game,” said Roughrider Foundation Executive Director, Cindy Fuchs. “The Roughrider Foundation is dedicated to empowering youth in our community, and we are so thankful for community partners such as Football Sask who allow us to do just that.”
