Riders announce 10 names from negotiation list

CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie wants to make the league more transparent for its fans.

To that end, Ambrosie asked each team this off-season to reveal 10 of the names on its confidential negotiation list.

Here’s a brief look at 10 of the players currently on the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ negotiation list. They appear in alphabetical order:

 

Josh Boyce, wide receiver: 5-foot-11, 206 pounds … 26 years old … Hometown is Columbia, S.C. … Product of Texas Christian University … Currently a free agent … Selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2013 NFL draft … Also had stops in that league with the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns … Had nine catches for 121 yards in 10 career NFL games … Played three seasons at TCU … Recorded 161 receptions for 2,535 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career with the Horned Frogs.

B.J. Daniels, quarterback: 5-foot-11, 217 pounds … 28 years old … Hails from Tallahassee, Fla. … Attended the University of South Florida … Currently a free agent … Taken by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round (237th overall) of the 2013 NFL draft … Also had stops with the Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texas, New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons … After playing quarterback in college, spent time at QB, receiver and running back in the NFL … Was 1-for-2 passing for seven yards, and had two catches for 18 yards and six rushes for six yards in his NFL career … Threw for 8,433 yards and 52 touchdowns and rushed for 2,068 yards and 25 TDs in five seasons at USF.

Akeem Davis, linebacker: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds … 28 years old … Hometown is Laurel, Miss. … Played safety and linebacker at the University of Memphis … Is a free agent … After going undrafted in the 2013 NFL lottery, was signed by the Washington Redskins in 2014 and played 13 games with them that season … NFL career also featured stints with the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars … Made eight solo and five assisted tackles in 21 career NFL games … Recorded 105 solo stops, 57 assists, seven fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles and three interceptions in 34 career games at Memphis.

Curt Maggitt, defensive end: 6-foot-4, 252 pounds … 25 years old … Hails from West Palm Beach, Fla. … Attended the University of Tennessee … Currently a free agent … Signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2016 … Played nine games with the Colts, registering three solo tackles and four assists, before being placed on injured reserve … Recorded 83 unassisted tackles, 58 assists, 28.5 tackles for losses, 13.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 35 career games over four seasons at Tennessee.

Trace McSorley, quarterback: 6-foot-0, 198 pounds … 22 years old … Hometown is Centreville, Va. … Spent the past four seasons at Penn State University, including one as a redshirt … Could be selected in the 2019 NFL draft … Has gone 22-5 as the Nittany Lions’ starting quarterback … Threw for 3,614 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2016 and 3,570 yards and 28 TDs in 2017 … Has completed 528 of 854 pass attempts for 7,369 yards with 59 TDs, and rushed 303 times for 899 yards and 18 majors in his 34-game college career … Went 55-5 as a starter in high school, winning three state titles in four seasons.

Luis Perez, quarterback: 6-foot-3, 220 pounds … 23 years old … Product of Chula Vista, Calif. … Spent two seasons at Southwestern College before transferring to Texas A&M University-Commerce … Could be selected in the 2018 NFL draft … Was ninth (out of nine) on the quarterback depth chart at Southwestern as a freshman before assuming the starting job that season … Was a two-year starter at A&M-Commerce, completing 665 of 985 pass attempts for 8,325 yards with 78 touchdowns … In 2017, was 421-for-596 passing for 4,999 yards with 46 TDs in 15 games en route to winning the Harlon Hill Trophy as the top player in NCAA Division II football.

Eric Pinkins, defensive back: 6-foot-3, 220 pounds … 26 years old … Hails from Sacramento, Calif. … Played collegiately at San Diego State University … Currently is unsigned … Selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round (208th overall) of the 2014 NFL draft … Had a stint with the New York Giants in 2016 … Had two solo tackles and one assist in 11 career NFL games … Recorded 121 unassisted tackles, 51 assists, 15.5 tackles for losses, three sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 46 games over four collegiate seasons.

Kevin Snead, wide receiver: 6-foot-0, 190 pounds … 26 years old … Hometown is Richmond, Va. … Had stops at Mesa Community College, Pima Community College and Eastern Michigan University before going to Carson-Newman University … Signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2017 … Was waived/injured by the Giants in August and currently is a free agent … Track star was dubbed “the fastest man in college football” in 2016 after running a 4.22-second 40-yard dash … Had six catches for 193 yards with one touchdown and 18 kickoff returns for 430 yards and one TD over two seasons at Carson-Newman.

Daxton Swanson, defensive back: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds … 26 years old … Product of Waco, Texas … Played at the University of Toledo and Sam Houston State University … Is a free agent … Wasn’t selected in the 2013 NFL draft, but subsequently signed with the Indianapolis Colts … Also had NFL stops with the San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys, but didn’t play in any regular-season games … Had 26 solo tackles, five assists and seven pass knockdowns in 10 games at Toledo. Recorded 96 unassisted tackles, 33 assists, 31 pass breakups and 14 interceptions in 41 career contests at Sam Houston State.

Adam Zaruba, fullback: 6-foot-5, 265 pounds … 26 years old … Hails from North Vancouver, B.C. … Attended Simon Fraser University, but didn’t play football there … Has been a member of the Canadian rugby sevens national team … Signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in July 2017, but was cut by the Eagles in September … Tight end prospect signed a futures contract with Philly in January.
