Riders Sign Campbell, Swanson

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have announced the following roster moves:

SIGNED:

  • American defensive back Christian Campbell
  • American running back Terry Swanson

Campbell (6’0 – 193) was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round, 182nd overall, of the 2018 NFL Draft. The 24-year old joins the Riders after spending parts of the last two seasons in the NFL, splitting time with the Cardinals, New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.

The Alabama native spent four seasons at Penn State, collecting 102 defensive tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 44 collegiate games. Campbell picked up a 2017 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after a standout senior season, leading the team with 12 pass break ups and ranking eighth in the conference. He was also selected to participate in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Swanson (5’10 – 205) comes to the Riders after spending the 2018 preseason with the NFL’s Houston Texans. In four games with the Texans, Swanson rushed for 74 yards and scored one touchdown.

Before turning pro, the 24-year-old spent four seasons at the University of Toledo, playing in 49 games for the Rockets. Swanson completed his collegiate career with 31 rushing touchdowns and 3,601 yards, ranking fourth on Toledo’s all-time rushing list. He also added 55 receptions for 492 yards and two touchdowns.

The Pennsylvania native was a consistent presence in the backfield throughout his time at Toledo, but his best season came as a senior. In 2017, Swanson was named first-team All-MAC after leading the conference with an average of 104.8 rushing yards per game, while finishing second in rushing touchdowns with 14. He was also named second-team All-MAC following his 2015 sophomore season.
