Pro path

Herdman-Reed was selected by the BC Lions in the seventh round (60th overall) of the 2017 CFL draft. He signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Feb. 9, 2021, and then re-signed with the Lions on Feb. 15, 2023. BC released him on May 21, 2023.

 

2022

(Saskatchewan) In eight games for the Roughriders, Herdman-Reed made four special-teams tackles. Two of the special-teams stops came in a Week 20 game against Calgary.

 

2021

(Saskatchewan) In his first season with the Roughriders, Herdman-Reed played nine games and had one defensive tackle and two special-teams stops.

 

2020

(BC) Herdman-Reed was under contract with the Lions but the season was cancelled because of the global pandemic.

 

2019

(BC) Herdman-Reed played 16 games and made five starts. He made 37 defensive tackles and added eight special-teams tackles, one sack, two knockdowns and one forced fumble.

 

2018

(BC) In his second professional season, Herdman-Reed played all 18 regular-season contests including eight starts. He accumulated 56 defensive tackles including one tackles for loss, 17 special-teams stops, three knockdowns and the first two sacks of his career. The sacks came in back-to-back games – in Montreal on Sept. 14 and against Hamilton on Sept. 22. On July 20 in Ottawa, he had a career-best 12 tackles. Herdman-Reed also played in the Eastern Semi-Final and recorded four defensive tackles,

 

2017

(BC) Herdman-Reed appeared in all 18 regular-season games as a rookie for the Lions and finished second on the team with 19 special-teams tackles. He also recorded two defensive tackles. In a six-game span in September and October, he had at least one special-teams tackle in each contest for a total of eight.

College

Herdman-Reed played four seasons (2013-16) at Simon Fraser and was a two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference defensive player of the year. He set the school record for career tackles with 428 and the conference single-game tackles mark with 26.

 

Personal

Herdman-Reed is an alumnus of Sturgeon Heights Collegiate in Winnipeg. His twin brother Justin is a five-year CFL veteran and the two were teammates for two seasons in Saskatchewan (2021-22). The twins’ father James Reed played professionally on both sides of the border including CFL time with Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto and Saskatchewan.
