The firm of Getzlaf and Getzlaf is now represented in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame.
Former Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Chris Getzlaf joined his brother, Ryan, in Saskatchewan’s sporting shrine when the 2026 inductees were announced on Tuesday in Saskatoon. Ryan, who spent all 17 of his NHL seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, entered the SSHF in 2023.
“It’s obviously a big honour when you’re able to get recognized at that level for the contributions you were able to make in your respective sport or area of expertise within sport,” Chris Getzlaf said. “You get a chance to join a short list of people who have already notched a place in history for what they have done.
“To join anyone like that is a huge compliment. Joining my brother in the same category in the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame is obviously something that’s pretty cool as well.”
Both Getzlafs celebrated a championship in 2007. After Ryan helped Anaheim win a Stanley Cup in the spring of that year, Chris shared in his first of two Grey Cup-winning seasons as a Roughrider.
Acquired from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Aug. 20, 2007, Chris spent the remainder of his first CFL season on the Roughriders’ practice roster. He went on to play in the 2009, 2010 and 2013 Grey Cup Games for the West Division champions.
Most memorably, he caught three passes for 78 yards to help Saskatchewan defeat Hamilton 45-23 on Nov. 24, 2013 at historic Mosaic Stadium.
Two of his catches set up short touchdown runs during a game that was followed by his decoration as the 101st Grey Cup’s Most Valuable Canadian.
The Regina-born Getzlaf entered the SaskTel Plaza of Honour in 2021.
“Having an opportunity to play for a team that is Canada’s Team and is obviously the biggest draw in Saskatchewan on the sports front, and having a chance to play at a professional level in your hometown for the team you grew up cheering for and that your buddies all cheered for, it’s pretty wild,” he marvelled. “It’s a super-cool experience and one that I certainly haven’t taken for granted.”
The two-time 1,000-yard receiver and West Division All-Star is fifth All-Time on the Roughriders in catches (368) and receiving yards (5,694) and sixth in TD catches (37).
“It’s already eight years ago that I retired,” Getzlaf said. “Time just flies. But when something like this comes up, it gives you a chance to reminisce on some of those times, those successes and those relationships and soak it back in, if you will, while you’re being recognized in such an honourable way.”
The former Usher Unicorns, Regina Thunder and University of Regina Rams standout joins Christian Baerg of Saskatoon (rowing), Otto Huber of Lipton (golf) and Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt (athletics) in the SSHF’s Athletes category.
Dr. Marlys Misfeldt (sport medicine and science) and Ross Wilson of Saskatoon (basketball) are being enshrined as Builders as part of the Class of 2026.
The Western Women’s Canadian Football League’s Saskatoon Valkyries (2011 to 2014 editions) are the latest addition to the Team category.

The inaugural induction class, including former Roughriders coach/manager Al Ritchie, was feted 27 days before the Green and White posted the first Grey Cup victory in franchise history.
