Week 12 Look-Ahead: Riders vs. Argos

The Green & White are coming off a narrow 27-24 defeat to the Montreal Alouettes. Despite the loss, Saskatchewan’s performance showcased a competitive edge and ability to stay in it—even while they may not have been at their very best. Trevor Harris, in particular, was a standout in his return to action. His ability to make throws and lead the offence was a key factor in Week 11 coming down to the wire.

The Argonauts enter Week 12 with renewed optimism following a significant development in their quarterback situation. Chad Kelly, Toronto’s starting QB, has been reinstated under ongoing conditions in a “last chance” agreement. This move comes after his recent suspension, adding both uncertainty and potential to the Argos’ offence. Kelly’s return could reinvigorate the team’s performance, given his history of playmaking ability.

Items to watch include the aforementioned Harris who, if he continues to impress will be crucial for a Rider offence, looking to find the end zone on a more regular basis. As highlighted by Rob Vanstone, Harris’s ability to focus on the present and deliver under pressure will be key against a potentially rejuvenated Argos defence.

Both teams will need to focus on defensive schemes to contain each other’s star players. The Argonauts’ defence will be tested against the 1-2 punch of the Riders passing game—and the relentless pressure provided by A.J. Ouellette. On the other side, Roughriders must figure out how to handle Kelly’s dual-threat capabilities.

The matchup promises to be intense, with both teams bringing significant strengths and a few areas of uncertainty. The return of Chad Kelly could provide a spark for the Argonauts, but the Roughriders’ recent form make them formidable first test. If the Rider “D” can pressure Kelly and disrupt his rhythm, they could edge the Argos in what is likely to be a tightly contested game.

As always, the outcome could hinge on key moments and adjustments made during the game. Rider Nation can expect a high-energy matchup with plenty of strategy as Mace & Co. make their way bac
