Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation Announces New Mental Wellness Initiative For Youth

In partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation is proud to announce the release of the Game Changers Playbook. The playbook is a collection of Ministry approved mental health resources that are evidence based and curriculum linked.

The resources provided in the playbook are manageable, user-friendly and connect to the Provincial Education Plan Framework’s Mental Health and Well-being area of focus.  The Game Changers Playbook supports division priorities with the goal of empowering and equipping youth to look after their mental wellness.

“The Ministry of Education recognizes the importance of supporting the health, safety and mental well-being of Saskatchewan students,” said Minister of Education, Dustin Duncan. “We are proud to collaborate with the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation on the Game Changers Playbook, a resource which will connect mental wellness resources with the educators and staff who work daily with youth in our schools.”

The Foundation is working collaboratively with several leading youth mental wellness organizations to provide the resources to all schools in the province for no cost. Each organization brings unique lessons to the playbook, and they are available immediately.

  • Strong Minds Strong Kids, Psychology Canada – Kids Have Stress Too! and Stress Lessons
  • Kids Help Phone – Counsellor in the Classroom
  • SaskTel – Be Kind Online
  • Mental Health Commission of Canada – The Working Mind for Sport Leaders

The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation has also created the Win with Wellness presentation series to accompany the many excellent resources already provided in the playbook. The presentations will see trained player ambassadors visiting Saskatchewan classrooms to present on and promote the discussion of mental wellness for youth. Educators will be able to book these presentations in the coming months.

“The release of the Game Changers Playbook and Win with Wellness presentation series are part of our commitment to better youth mental wellness in the province,” said Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation Executive Director, Cindy Fuchs. “The more we talk about mental wellness, the less stigma there is around it and the more children it will help.  We want to continue to be leaders in that change.”
