Internship Details

This internship is perfect for those looking to use the extensive knowledge gained from their recent degree and apply it to gain unique experience in the Sports & Entertainment Industry.

  • Term: May 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022
  • Open to student and new grads (up to 24 months post graduation). We are looking for top local talent to share, inspire and grow the passion that fuels Rider Nation and our province! Therefore, applicants must be Saskatchewan based or a returning local resident.

The Riders is currently scouting for a motivated individual to assist our Communications Team!

Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Media Relations Intern will assist with all Club business and football operations related communications activities including written press releases, player biographies, stats and game notes for the media for all Rider games; co-ordinates game day activities including press box, broadcaster needs, post-game interviews and coaches/player interviews and appearances with the media including on game day, practice days and in the community. The position will assist with writing copy and commentary for all team publications and the Riderville website. The position helps manage relationships with media partners that provide a series of regular promotional programs providing coverage to team events during the football season.


Where will your talents be focused? (Includes, but is not limited to)

  • Develops positive working relationships with local and national media to ensure accuracy or reporting organizational events
  • Monitors activities of football operations personnel at daily practices and Club sponsored events to ensure messaging and player/coaching profiles match the Club’s desired public image and coaches players on the needs of the media and local community
  • Assists with media related game day activities including press box set-up, contact with the host broadcaster to ensure their needs are met within the context of their broadcasting agreement
  • Assists with all player/coaching staff media interviews; accompanies players to interviews and monitors interview content for accuracy and appropriateness of any commentary provided
  • Assists with the preparation, organization and publishing of the content on the Riderville web site
  • Responds to fan mail/phone calls and various customer problems and game day issues with a focus on problem resolution within pre-approved authority limits
  • Assists in the support of Rider programs and events as assigned, which may include evenings and weekends
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned


What’s needed to be successful in this role?

  • Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, post-secondary studies in business, administration, sports management, or journalism
  • Proven skill in juggling multiple priorities and attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment with shifting priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Must be physically able to meet demands of field work and general office duties
  • Ability to work longer hours during the season, especially game days which are crucial for availability
  • Confidentiality is a must and is an expectation from all employees
