ROUGHRIDERS HOLD ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Saskatchewan Roughriders held their 2020-21 Annual General Meeting virtually on June 23. Chief Financial Officer Kent Paul presented the report which featured the following highlights:

Financial Report

The Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club reported a loss of $7.5 million compared to a net loss of $210,064 last year.

As a result of the pandemic and the cancelled 2020 CFL season, the Club’s total operating revenues dropped significantly (74%) to $10.3 million in 2020-21 compared to $39.6 million in 2019-20.

  • Of the $10.3 million recorded in revenues, $3.9 million were related to federal government programs including Canadian Employment Wage Subsidy and Federal Government’s Canadian Emergency Rent Subsidy.

Operating expenses decreased to $18.7 million compared to $39.7 million in the year prior, due to a cancelled season and expense savings across all areas including an over 30 percent reduction in the workforce, pay cuts and significant limitations on all discretionary expenses.

The Club is facing a roughly $6 million cash flow deficit from its operations and is projecting to realize significantly more in 2021 and beyond as the Club recovers from the pandemic.

Board of Directors

The Saskatchewan Roughriders Board of Directors re-elected Doug Hodson and Mackenzie (Firby) Kilshaw for another 3-year term.

Continuing their terms on the Board are Arnie Arnott, Eric Dillon, Rhonda Ekstrom, Terri Harris-Strunk, Doug Hodson, Dave Pettigrew, and Greg Yuel.

Randy Beattie has concluded his term as Chair and the Roughriders thank him for his guidance over the last two years. He will remain as a member of the Board of Directors.

Barry Clarke will become the Board Chair and Dave Pettigrew the Vice-Chair.
