Rob Bagg Returns To The Roughriders

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have brought receiver Rob Bagg back to the fold.

The 33-year-old product of Kingston, Ont., spent 10 seasons with the CFL team before being released June 10. Two months later, he’s back with the Green and White.

Bagg joined the Roughriders in 2007 as an undrafted free agent out of Queen’s University. He made the team out of training camp that year, but opted to return to Queen’s for his final season of university eligibility.

He returned to the Roughriders in 2008 and once again made the team. He went on to play 139 career regular-season games, making 364 receptions for 4,705 yards with 24 touchdowns.

Bagg missed nearly two full seasons (2011 and 2012) with knee injuries, but returned each time.

The Roughriders also announced they had released four players. National defensive tackle Tresor Mafuta was cut, as were three internationals: Quarterback Devin Gardner, defensive back Shawun Lurry and tailback Trent Richardson.

Gardner, Lurry and Mafuta were on the practice roster. Richardson was on the suspended list after not reporting to training camp.

In late July, Richardson told reporters in Alabama that he was planning to sign with the Birmingham entry in the proposed Alliance of American Football. The Roughriders’ decision to release him Wednesday makes that a possibility.

In another move announced Wednesday, the Roughriders added international defensive back Will Blackmon to the practice roster.
