The Roughriders are out to sweep the Tiger-Cats

Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-5-0)
at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-8-0)
Friday, 5 p.m., Tim Hortons Field
TSN, CKRM

THE FORECAST: Environment Canada is calling for a mainly sunny day with a high of 26 C and a low of 13 C in the evening.

THE LOWDOWN: The Roughriders and Tiger-Cats meet for the second and final time in the 2017 regular season. Saskatchewan won 37-20 when the teams met at Mosaic Stadium on July 8 … The Roughriders’ three-game winning streak ended Saturday, when they lost 48-28 to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Hamilton is coming off a 26-22 decision over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday — the Tiger-Cats’ second straight victory after they opened the season with eight consecutive losses.

THE RIDERS’ ROSTER: Quarterback Kevin Glenn is expected to be a game-time decision for the Roughriders. The veteran suffered a bruised right (throwing) hand during the loss in Winnipeg and has been a spectator during practices this week. Glenn goes into the game with a 99-101-1 career record; his next victory will move him ahead of Tom Clements for ninth on the CFL’s all-time wins list … If Glenn can’t go, backup Brandon Bridge would make his first regular-season start for Saskatchewan. Bridge replaced Glenn in Winnipeg and completed four of eight pass attempts for 67 yards with an interception and a two-point convert completion to Caleb Holley. Bridge also rushed for a 10-yard touchdown … Kienan LaFrance is to make his second straight start at tailback. LaFrance filled in for the injured Cameron Marshall in Winnipeg, rushing 12 times for 49 yards and a TD … The Roughriders’ receiving corps remains the same from last week, with Holley, Rob Bagg, Duron Carter, Bakari Grant and Naaman Roosevelt in the starting roles. Carter leads the CFL with eight touchdown receptions and has tied a club record with a TD catch in six straight games. Roosevelt, who has exceeded 100 yards in each of Saskatchewan’s past two games, is fifth in the league with 840 receiving yards … The Roughriders’ offensive line returns intact from the previous game. Brendon LaBatte centres the unit, with Derek Dennis and Peter Dyakowski as the guards and Bruce Campbell and Thad Coleman at the tackle spots. Campbell left both of the previous two games with minor injuries, but the veteran tackle is slated to start Friday … Defensive end Willie Jefferson remains the anchor of the Roughriders’ D-line. He goes into the week tied for fifth in the league in sacks (six) and he’s second in pressures (20). Jefferson will be joined in the defensive line rotation by Tobi Antigha, T.J. Barnes, Makana Henry, A.C. Leonard, Ese Mrabure and Eddie Steele … Barnes, whose signing was announced Monday, replaces the departed Royce LaFrance on the roster … Saskatchewan is seventh in the league with 19 sacks and tied for seventh with 60 pressures … There’s a change among the starting linebackers. Henoc Muamba remains in the middle, but Otha Foster III — a recent signee after being cut by the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens — joins Sam Eguavoen as the starters on the outside. Jeff Knox Jr., who was signed Monday after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also is expected to get some snaps on defence … Saskatchewan will deploy the same secondary that faced the Bombers, with Kacy Rodgers II and Jovon Johnson on the corners, Crezdon Butler and Ed Gainey at the halfback spots and Mike Edem at safety … Marcus Thigpen, a one-time Roughrider who spent four seasons in the NFL, has returned to Saskatchewan and will handle punt and kickoff returns on Friday. Long-snapper Jorgen Hus, punter Josh Bartel and kicker Tyler Crapigna remain the Roughriders’ other specialists … With internationals Barnes, Foster, Knox and Thigpen coming on to the roster, Erick Dargan, Antwane Grant, Royce LaFrance and Will Ratelle come off … In terms of nationals, linebackers Brandyn Bartlett and Beau Landry take the roster spots of Alex Gagne and Aaron Milton.
