For Commissioner Mark Cohon
I take strong objection to the purported initiative by the CFL league office to reduce the minimum number of Canadian starters from 7 to 4. Given the much hyped , “our league our game”, I just wonder how much of a hypocrite this makes the league and its teams appear to be? This initiative is likely driven by the large number of American coaches in the CFL, many of whom are temporary residents, who never really get to understand the country. This initiative will only serve to undermine the development of Canadian football at the grass roots and should be apposed.

Look at the Sask Roughriders, and tell me these Canadians cannot start on any team in the CFL: Rob Bagg WR, Fantuz, Andy SB, Jason Clermont SB, McCullough, Mike LB, Makowsky, Gene G, Alexander, Donovan DB, Getzlaf, Chris SB, just to name a few. These individuals are as good as any Americans, and if it was not for the Canadian content rule, who knows if they would of gotten the opportunity? The CIS provides many talented football players for the CFL. Reducing the number of starters is NOT in the league’s best interest. Go Figure an Edmonton manager suggesting this change? Maybe if Edmonton spent more time searching for Canadian players they would not of missed the playoff the last two years.
