I have been fortunate this week to answer my favorite question over and over and over again: “What happened?” I always enjoy talking with fans around the city and most of them are always looking for answers after a loss. Last Friday night was a tough game and we didn’t perform as well as we should have. Our defense and special teams played well but the offense struggled and didn’t get the job done…plain and simple. If someone had told me that we would hold BC to 19 points I would have thought for sure that we would have left that field victorious…but that wasn’t the case. Does that mean I think we’re not a good offense? Absolutely not! After 13 games played this year we rank 3rd in the CFL in total points scored, are tied 2nd for most touchdowns scored and we are in 1st place for most rushing touchdowns…doesn’t sound like an offense that has struggled all season long to me. I’ll be the first to admit that we performed poorly last week in BC but I’m disappointed how some fans and reporters make it sound like we need to revamp our entire offense. The coaches have done a great job this year at coming up with good game plans and the players have tried to execute those game plans as best as they could. The good news is that we have another opportunity to execute a great game plan this Saturday against Toronto who has one of the best defense in the league and we also have a chance to get back a share of 1st place in the West Division if Montreal beats Calgary…I wouldn’t mind a first round playoff bye and then a home game before we go to the Grey Cup…would you?
We got back Saturday afternoon from BC and I was in one of those moods that all I wanted to do was work on my groove spot on the couch. I grabbed some lunch with my gorgeous fiancée and headed back home to relax and watch some TV. I watched our game on the TSN copy that I had recorded on my pvr, something I always do after games. Actually, if we have a home game I always watch the game when I get back home that night to see how we did. I realize that I play in the game and should know how we did but many times I think I have a great block and it turns out to be just average and then on a play where I think I did just ok it turns out that I did a really good job. That Saturday night, we ordered some Chinese food and caught up on episodes of our favorite shows like Entourage, Dexter, Heroes and Ultimate Fighter. It was the first weekend in many months that I actually had time to catch my breath and relax for a bit, which was much needed after a few games in a row that lead us to having no days off for a few weeks.
It hit me today that we are getting in the last few weeks of the season…how you ask? Snow flakes. I was sitting at a light on my way home and all of a sudden a few tiny snow flakes hit my windshield…and the song “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” began playing in my head! Then I snapped back to reality and realized it couldn’t be Christmas time yet because I hadn’t been trick or treating yet…I mean the kids in my neighborhood hadn’t come by trick or treating yet. Wonder what the Halloween Blizzard will be this year? Time to get back to watching some game tape…and I tell you my friends, I’m not making this stuff up…
