On Saturday, January 21st many of the Roughrider players and staff took to the ice for game one of the second annual Rider Pride Hockey Challenge presented by SaskCanola.
This year’s tour began with a stop in Yorkton, where the Rider Priders were set to square off against a large collection of members from the Yorkton Minor Football Association.
Prior to hitting the ice, an autograph session was held and fans in attendance were able to meet their favourite Rider players, get their pictures taken and get to know the players “behind the helmet.”
The fun continued as the squad took to the ice, and led by Stu Foord (2 goals, 4 assists), the Riders proved to be too much to handle as they skated their way to a 10-3 victory over the opposition.
This event helped to raise funds for the football field in Yorkton, specifically the construction of a washroom/change-room facility on site.
The Hockey Challenge, which is quickly becoming a favourite off-season activity for the players, raised between $5000-$7500 for the community on its first stop.
Next up: A stop in Kindersley on Saturday, February 18.
