The Canadian Football League has announced that Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Marvin Golding has been suspended two games for violating the CFL/CFLPA Drug Policy.
Statement from Riders linebacker Marvin Golding:
I would like to apologize to my family, friends and most importantly the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization. They have given me an opportunity to play professional football and I disappointed them by taking a banned substance. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept my suspension delivered by the Canadian Football League. Lastly I would like to apologize to the young athletes that look up to us and have aspirations of playing professional sports. I promise to be a better role model moving forward.
Statement from Riders General Manager and Head Coach Chris Jones:
We were extremely disappointed to learn that Marvin had committed a violation regarding a banned substance found during a random test. Marvin has taken full responsibility for his actions and we believe he will take the necessary steps to ensure this does not happen again. As an organization we support the policy to prevent the use of performance enhancing drugs set forth by the CFL and CFLPA in order to improve player safety and create a level playing field among athletes.
