2016 Minicamp Roster and Preview

Dreams can be fulfilled when you just get a chance. That’s what the majority of the players are receiving this weekend when the Saskatchewan Roughriders hit the field for the first time under the guidance of Head Coach, Chris Jones. There will be familiar faces participating including the return of Darian Durant, quarterback Brett Smith as well as a second chance for CFL vets like running backs Chevon Walker and Paris Cotton as well as former TiCat and Alouette quarterback Dan LeFevour.

The camp actually began Saturday with and open FA tryout with over 100 players reporting. A handful (12-14) of those were asked to attend the main mini-camp to join those already invited.

Of those already on the Minicamp roster:

·      36 players signed to the Rider roster

·      14 Nationals

·      Ten quarterbacks (Durant, Smith, LeFevour, B.J. Coleman, Jacob Huesman (La.Tech), Moses Skillon (Morgan St.), Shane Austin (Hawaii), David Watford (Hampton/Virginia), Jameel Sewell (Virginia), Marquel Neasman (UCF).

·      Three kickers

·      Three former Rider draft picks (Johnny Mark {3rd/20th 2014}, Melvin Abankwah {6th/50th 2015}, Kwame Adjei {5th/42nd 2015})

·      Also, on a fun note there is a former basketball player, Tony Criswell (Missouri) and elite level hammer thrower Trey Henderson (USC, also a Canadian)
