JEREMY O’DAY NAMED INTERIM VP, FOOTBALL OPS & GENERAL MANAGER BOB DYCE NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have relieved VP, football operations & general manager Brendan Taman, and head coach Corey Chamblin of their duties with the Football Club.

“We are not meeting our expectations or our standards on the field and these changes were necessary to move us forward,” stated Riders President & CEO Craig Reynolds.

“Brendan and Corey worked tirelessly for this organization and I thank them for all that they have done for our team,” continued Reynolds. “But we are in a results oriented business and the current position of our team is unacceptable and this decision was necessary for us to build this team towards sustained success.”

Brendan Taman was officially named general manager in January, 2010 after spending the previous season as director of football administration. Taman was handed full autonomy on personnel decisions following the 2011 season in which the Riders finished out of the CFL playoffs with a 5-13 record.

Corey Chamblin became the franchise’s 44th head coach when he was hired in December 2011 and will now depart with a 29-34 regular season record, 2-2 playoff record, and one Grey Cup through his three and a half seasons at the helm.

After finishing the 2012 season at 8-10, the Riders reached a franchise best 8-1 record to open 2013. The team went on to finish second in the West Division with an 11-7 record and hosted a home playoff game for the first time since 2010. After defeating the B.C. Lions in the Western Semi-Final, the Riders took out the Stampeders 35-13 in Calgary. The Riders then defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 45-23 in the Grey Cup; winning the franchises fourth championship.

Chamblin was named Canadian Football League Coach of the Year for the 2013 season.

Last season, the team’s hot starts continued as the Riders raced out to an 8-2 record for just the fifth time in franchise history. However, the team stumbled the rest of the way, winning just two of its final eight games before losing the Western Semi-Final.

At the midway point of the 2015 season, the Riders currently sit in last place in the CFL with a 0-9 record.

Both vacated positions will be filled on an interim basis with a full search being conducted at seasons end. Jeremy O’Day has been named interim VP, football operations & general manager while Bob Dyce has been named interim head coach.
